Murder Rates in Latin America

Many people want to believe that Mexico is a very dangerous country because of all of the drug trafficking and cartels, but in reality Honduras has the highest murder rate off any Latin American country followed closely behind by El Salvador. Some are unsure of why Honduras has the highest murder rate, but speculation can point to the drug war and gangs in the country. On average about 20 people per day are murdered in Honduras. The majority of which are believed to be related to cocaine trafficking. The Honduran military as well as the police force were trying to combat this drug related violence, but the military cannot do much because of their lack of power to arrest and build up evidence against the offenders. Since then the government has given the military full domestic powers, including making arrests, doing searches, and executing warrants in law enforcement matters.
